The 85777 D11 is worth considering when a small-scale dozer must do more than stand with its blade level. Its inspected blade and ripper have a useful range of adjustment. The compromise is visible higher up: chunky cab handrails look less delicate than the metal tracks beneath them.

The movement is the reason to look beyond the size

What the inspected D11 can show
Assembly Documented adjustment
Blade Raises and lowers, tilts forward through a wide range, with some side twist
Triple-shank ripper Raises high, lowers, and changes tooth angle
Access ladder Rotates between raised and lowered positions

These are separate adjustments. A raised blade is not the same pose as a blade tipped forward; likewise, lowering the ripper does not describe its tooth angle. The original 85777 inspection documents both distinctions, making this more interesting to reposition than a miniature with only a single lift movement.

Where the scale becomes visible

A low viewpoint emphasizes the finely represented track shoes and the perforated strip above the blade. A view around the cab draws attention to the oversized soft-plastic rails and plain walkways. That contrast matters more than a blanket claim that the whole model is either highly detailed or too simple.

The track rollers are not functional. Free-running tracks should not be mistaken for a fully articulated miniature undercarriage.

The inspection found a small paint loss at a blade connection on its sample. Treat that as a condition detail to examine on an offered example, not a failure rate or proof that every blade adjustment damages the finish.

Pros & Cons Analysis

See the source attributions and review limitations below.

Pros

  • The blade offers more than vertical lift: the inspected forward tilt lets its face be presented at different attitudes. That makes the front assembly a worthwhile focus in its own right.
  • The ripper can sit high or work downward with its angle adjusted. A rear-facing presentation therefore retains a functional subject rather than merely showing a fixed accessory.
  • A good color match on the plastic drive sprocket helps the track assembly read as a coherent whole.

Cons

  • The soft-plastic cab rails are conspicuously heavy for the scale. Collectors concentrating on close cab photography may find them more distracting than those viewing the complete model.
  • The walkways lack surface texture, so the area around the operator station is less convincing at close range than the track shoes.

A useful 1:87 mechanism with a coarser cab surround

The D11’s appeal is in the adjustable blade and ripper, supported by well-defined metal tracks. It belongs on the shortlist when changing the machine’s posture is part of the enjoyment.

For close inspection of fine access rails and walkway texture, the cab surround is the compromise to accept before buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the access ladder motorized?

The merchant mentions powered access ladder details, but the inspection documents a ladder that rotates into position. That does not establish a motor or powered function in the miniature.

Is this the same product as D11 code 85659?

This review covers code 85777 only. Similar D11 TKN naming does not establish that another product code has identical tooling, dimensions or included equipment.
